We had a truly FORMIDABLE meeting last Saturday, February 27th at Sector.
Or like the French love to say it: Le meeting... c'est FORMIDABLE!!
Formidable was the Word of the Day and it quickly became the most used word as those present tried the word and found it fun and appropriate to use throughout the meeting.
As we had only 2 speakers, Vaughan and Miranda, there was plenty of time for Table Topic Session. All guests had a chance to speak, and it was a very fun and funny session, lots of laughter, as the Topicsmaster, Ina, skillfully led the session with thought provoking questions.
Vaughan did his 3rd speech (already !!! - in the span of 6 weeks) on the uniqueness on Selonding gamelan, using visual aids even though it wouldn't be until project 8 before he's supposed to learn how to employ it. The topic was very interesting, the opening was unexpected, as he let the audience listen to the selonding gamelan music for several minutes before he introduced his speech.
Miranda did her 18th project from the Story Telling Advanced Communication Manual. Drawing from her personal experience, Miranda spoke about the importance of showing and telling those you love that you love them, how much they meant to you, and let them know you're sorry if you'be done them wrong while they're STILL ALIVE, and not until it's too late to matter, when they're gone forever.
Vaughan was chosen the Best Speaker.
The Table Topics was started with the question on how to convince the people in Bali to allow the creation of a Nudist colony. Femke from Stenden University volunteered to be the first impromptu speaker. She did it with ease, delightful imagination and a healthy dose of humor, causing the audience to laugh really hard at some of her suggestions. Ken was given the topic on having an imaginative conversation with Osama Ben Laden; what he would say to the big bad man. He was quite creative in his questions and comments to Osama, also eliciting a lot of laughter from the audience. Zachary was asked about his favorite place to visit and spoke about the Tower of Terror in Dysneyland. He was very imaginative, enthusiastic and vivid in his description and persuasiveness about why everyone should pay a visit to the Tower of Terror. Anya was asked about what she would do if she was having dinner with Orlando Bloom, but had to leave the table because she had a tummy trouble and had to go to the loo immediately. Ivan told us about his 3 most favorite gadgets. Jeanne, Novie, Sekar, Aninditha and Ida also had a go at the Table Topic Session to the merriment of all.
Young Zachary was chosen as the Best Table Topic Speaker.
Evaluators were Ina and Carlo.
Carlo with his thorough evaluation of Miranda's speech and especially with his booming voice was voted the Best Evaluator.
Noni was finding her form again as TOM now that she's been coming regularly to the club again.
Stefanie did an excellent job as first time General Evaluator. Her assistants:
Michele as Grammarian, Anya as Ah-oh counter, Ivan as Timer and Vaughan as the Ballot Counter, all did such great jobs that help make the meeting enjoyable and smooth running.
Ina did a truly great job leading a very creative Table Topic Session, with a lot of thought provoking questions
All in all there were 18 people attending, 9 members and 9 non members. Wonderful turnout, really fun and uplifting.
The meeting was adjourned slightly before 5 pm. Jeanne, Ken, Femke, Miranda, Ina, Anya and Vaughan continued on for another hour enjoying dusk, dinner and various discussions at the Sector veranda, overlooking the vast expanse of well tended golf course/park.
